Stephanie’s Rolls

Ingredients

1 cup shortening (plain or butter flavored)

3 1/2 cups milk

3/4 cup sugar

6 cups of flour (plus more as needed)

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1 heaping Tbsp salt

1 pkg Rapid Rise yeast

Method

  1. In a large microwave safe bowl, heat milk and shortening until the shortening is melted (about 115-120 degrees). Stir in sugar and set aside.

  2. In large mixing bowl, mix 2 cups of flour and the baking soda, baking powder, salt and yeast. Pour in the warm milk mixture and beat for two minutes. Beat in another 2 cups of flour and mix til smooth. Let rise one hour.

  3. Add in 2 more cups of flour and knead til smooth. Refrigerate overnight (or at least 6 hours).

  4. Take out as much as you need and let sit out for at least 20 minutes before working with the dough. Knead in flour if it isn’t stiff enough to work with. Shape into rolls and let rise for about 2 hours. Rolls should be double in size.

  5. Bake at 375 for about 20 minutes.

  6. This dough makes great cinnamon rolls too.
